Each year, two of the Directors of Rickfords Hill Publishing go out to the Busoga region of Uganda where they spend several weeks ministering in churches and conferences. The purpose of these visits is to provide strong Spirit-filled biblical preaching to encourage and edify the saints. The messages brought are very much in line with the sort of teaching in our One Pound Classics series: the centrality and all-sufficiency of Christ, the Spirit-filled life, dying to self etc.

These visits have proved very popular, and the churches have been encouraged. The churches that we deal with are chiefly Elim Churches, and we have been delighted to find how sound and faithful the churches and pastors are. There is a lack of excess and a real adherence to the Word of God.
Apart from the need for occasional encouragement in the way of extra teaching, the main need that these churches have is for help in constructing brick buildings. Most of them currently use cattle-dung buildings, which have their appeal in our western eyes, but have certain problems. Firstly, they are impractical: they are dark, rather dusty and need regular maintenance. Secondly, they are somewhat despised within the communities. Thirdly, as areas become developed, unless there is a brick building on a plot of land, the local council will not accept that the land is owned by the church and may take it away.

So a number of the churches in the area have started to build brick buildings, but most have not got past the foundations. The full cost of the building is £7,000-10,000. Bear in mind that a worker in a hotel will earn about £15-25 a month, and a teacher about £60 a month, and you see how hard it is to afford such a building.
So RHP is helping to support these building projects. The conditions for help are that 1) we see a sound, well-led, spirit-filled church and 2) that the church is already doing everything it can to put up a brick building without our help. Churches need at least to have put in the foundations themselves to qualify for help.
All the money is channelled through the Elim Regional Superintendency team in Uganda, where there are safeguards against misuse of funds.
RHP does not make any profit from the sale of books in the UK, so all funds for these projects are provided by donations.

Children’s ministry

Whilst in Uganda, we spend much time getting to know the children, and we now sponsor one child. Where there is the opportunity for godly families to adopt orphans or neglected children, we are willing to provide sponsorship. The children are enabled to go to school and are nurtured in a Christian family. Please note, the children featured here are not part of a sponsorship project.
